Model Expert and EA built-in functions

V15 of EA introduced some ideas which are similar to Model Expert - the idea of customizable 'perspectives'. But Model Expert gives you more...

How to create a Personal or Model-based perspective in EA

  1. Open the perpsectives dialog (Start > Desktop > Perspectives > Manage Perspectives)
  2. Open the Personal Sets or Model-Based Sets page
  3. Create a new perspective
  4. Give it a name and select strict
  5. Click the plus button to add the SysML 1.5 technology
  6. Click Restrict
  7. Deselect any items you don’t want to be available
  8. Click OK
  9. Save your perspective
  10. Enable your perspective (eg. Perspective > Personal > My SysML subset

This EA approach works well where you want to create strict sub-sets of existing modelling languages, and cut-down the number of element type and connectors which are allowed.

Tailoring a model-based Perspective

If all you need to do is create such a sub-set, then using this native EA function is probably a simpler approach than Model Expert.

However, Model Expert is designed to help you to implement modelling styles by defining sub-sets of existing modelling languages, and

  • adding your own stereotypes, your own tagged values, and your own connectors
  • creating a simpler, more guided user experience for your modellers
  • integrating your own tailored model help on your intranet
